Overview

Angharad Pearce Jones, Simon Gaiger and Stephen West

17 October / Hydref - 15 November / Tachwedd, 2026

Bringing together sculpture and drawing, the exhibition places three distinct but complementary practices in conversation. Angharad Pearce Jones and Simon Gaiger share a deep engagement with steel, fabrication and structure, while Stephen West introduces the immediacy of drawing, charcoal and mark-making.

Gan ddod â cherflunio a lluniadu ynghyd, mae'r arddangosfa hon yn rhoi tair arfer wahanol ond cyflenwol mewn sgwrs â'i gilydd. Mae Angharad Pearce Jones a Simon Gaiger yn rhannu diddordeb dwfn mewn dur, gwneuthuriad a strwythur, tra bod Stephen West yn cyflwyno'r uniongyrchedd o ddarlunio, siarcol a chreu marciau.

Angharad Pearce Jones

Originally from Bala, North Wales, Angharad Pearce Jones works as both an artist and commercial blacksmith. Over time, the distinction between these practices has become increasingly enmeshed, works that carry the physical and emotional traces of the world from which they emerge. She is a chronicler of the curiosities that mark our past and contemporary  environment providing  ‘impact narratives’  that force us into many lines of enquiry.

For this exhibition Angharad has added two new sculptures to her IMPACT series; exact  re-creations in welded steel of real scenes of impact, adding colour and pattern, to elevate them into brand new sculptures. /  Ar gyfer ei harddangosfa ddiweddaraf yn Celf_Gallery, mae Angharad Pearce Jones wedi ychwanegu dau gerflun newydd at ei chyfres o ARDRAWIADAU; cyfres o ail-greuadau cywir mewn dur, o drawiadau neu ddamweiniau go iawn. Trwy ychwanegu  lliw a phatrwm i’r wyneb, mae hi’n eu trawsnewid yn gerfluniau.

Simon Gaiger

Simon Gaiger is a sculptor whose practice encompasses furniture and sculpture, working predominantly in wood and steel from his studio in Wales. Across a varied discipline of material, scale and form runs a single, immutable language: one of tension and balance, in which opposing forces struggle for coherence while laying claim to a groundedness or lasting resonance.

His sculpture can be understood as a response to his changing surroundings, drawing on the space between the natural environment and the man-made world. Abstract in form, the work nevertheless holds traces of narrative, shaped by the tension between landscape, structure and human intervention, informed in part by a fascinating life, a childhood spent in Africa and the Pacific, time as a shipwright’s assistant and engineer.

Stephen West

Stephen West began his life in Berkshire before training as a painter at St Martins School of Art alongside his wife, Shani Rhys James. He has worked from his studio in Wales for over 40 years, developing a practice as both an artist and a regular contributor to public arts curation across Wales.

West’s drawings emerge from both landscape and interior life, moving between direct observation, allegory and imagined narratives. The works in this exhibition reflect this breadth: from large-scale charcoal drawings dominated by branching, all-encompassing trees, alongside more intimate observations of gardens and tiled rooftops.

‘The images I make on paper or board create an alternate reality, governed by the rules of drawing rather than the laws of nature. They draw on activity, gravity and space—whether observed in the real world or encountered in dreams—and seek to give these elements significance within the world of the drawing.
