Overview

Daniel Crawshaw was born in Herefordshire in 1967 and grew up in the Welsh borders.  After Foundation Studies in South Glamorgan Institute of Higher Education in Cardiff he studied Fine Art in Leicester Polytechnic. He now lives and works in South London.

He has exhibited widely and undertaken residencies in Snowdonia National Park and the Elan Valley. Daniel has also explored the Pyrenees, Canada, and Australia.

His paintings depict epic and isolated landscapes with a strong feeling of being overwhelmed in nature. Using photographs of experiences in the landscape, he produces paintings of various scales in his studio. They often are void of dominant objects or perspective and seem to have no horizon. Depictions of mountains shrouded in cloud that you feel could lift as you watch, or mist that seems to move as you observe. The paintings display lost moments which draw the viewer in.
