Richard Barrett is known for his breathtaking landscapes and cloudscapes. Originally from Cardiff, Richard studied Ecology at Sheffield University. After a spell teaching in London, he worked for a publishing company where he created artworks and commissioned work from other artists. He's now based in Sheffield and paints full time.

Time spent walking the landscape provides the starting point for Richard's work. Back in the studio a more intuitive approach comes into play, where memories and emotion guide the way his paintings evolve. As a result, the finished paintings capture a sense of place, reflecting its essence and soul. The quality of light is a constant theme, with billowing clouds and gestural landscape which can be either dramatic or calm and ethereal. His degree in ecology has given him an understanding of the structure of the land.

This exhibition of approximately 30 paintings is a celebration of the Welsh landscape. It brings together a collection that take inspiration from the diverse and unique beauty of Wales.

From the coastal paths of Pembrokeshire to the mountains of Snowdonia it forms a personal journey of memories and recollections of places I have lived, visited, and loved. For me it also provides a stark reminder of the fragility of these landscapes and the need to manage and protect them for future generations.
